Peter Conway, Trinity's
director of leasing, said the expanded Meridian Exchange building will target
an unmet need: large blocks of contiguous Class A space -- 50,000 square feet
or more -- for tenants seeking to move in almost immediately.
"I think we will
appeal on the national front," he said, as corporate search firms seek
potential sites for their clients.
The Charlotte Chamber
encourages office developers to build on speculation without signed tenants
because relocating corporations typically want to occupy space quickly.

supply of Class A space -- typically the market's

The construction, to be
completed in July, will create a building of 289,000 square feet, 140,000
square feet larger than it is now.
The exterior also will
get a face-lift, including a new glass-and-aluminum entrance and improved
landscaping.
A three-story,
400-space parking deck will be constructed next to the building, which is
connected to a 1.8 million-square-foot campus that includes a cafeteria and

Volunteers
are needed to teach high school students IT skills and be an advisor for a club.
Training for the volunteers would be
part of the process.
The target
for TechConnect is a diverse high school student population and skill level.
Students
who are already computer savvy will form the heart of each club; however, we
sincerely hope also to attract a large number of students with a beginning
interest to the technology arena.
The
purpose is to –
Encourage
students to seek technology careers.
Encourage
students to pursue degrees at our local colleges and universities.

Ensure
adequate supply of IT skilled workers.
TechConnect
is a one of the e-Learning Initiatives of the Charlotte Chamber and is also
known as e-Learning Career. It is funded
by Advantage Carolina, an affiliate of the Chamber. During the school year,
each club will have activities in multiple interest areas or
"tracks." Each track has approximately six weekly meetings.
